Why am I retiring? Being of service to the A.R.E. of NY has been the greatest joy of my life. It’s especially joyful—even thrilling—when we have a great team working together toward a common goal. The goal of helping people to live fuller lives in right relationship with themselves, humanity and God.
Now in my 70s, however,I find there are some things I can do better than I could in my 20s, 40s or 60s—but other things have become challenging. Multitasking is one of those things. I can and would be glad to continue to Volunteer for A.R.E. of NY for many years to come. But I cannot continue to be the “center pole.” I am not able to continue in the multiple roles I now carry.
What will A.R.E. of NY look like in 2025? The activities and functions that continue will depend on the Volunteers who come forward between now and the end of 2024.
We’re now halfway through August, leaving four and a half months to find the right Volunteers for these roles.
We’ve made some progress! Sherry Chow is doing a great job as our new Social Media Coordinator.
It looks like we now have one or more Volunteers who can handle the supervisory roles. (Currently, I supervise our Events Coordinator, Web Master and Social Media Coordinator.)
Other roles that are still opportunities for Volunteers are listed below.
We’ve also identified another role: Book-keeper. On a day-to-day basis, I’ve been functioning as our Book-keeper (and believe me, it is NOT a role I’m well suited for. I’m sure we can do better).
It isn’t necessary for the person who takes on the task to be trained in accounting or book-keeping. It is necessary for this Volunteer to be good with figures, trustworthy and responsible.
Here are the other roles to be filled and a brief description of the tasks involved in each:
- Admin for Online Psychic Fairs/Picnics
- Customer Service
- Writing/Editing Weekly E-newsletters
- Tracking and Acknowledging Donations
- The Open Door Editor/Layout person
We are also accepting applications to our Board. For more information about any of the above volunteer roles, or to request a Board application, please e-mail us at info@edgarcaycenyc.org.
While we cannot offer a salary for the above roles, we do offer Volunteers free attendance at some programs and other free benefits—and the good karma and joy of service.
We continue to look forward to hearing from the amazing Volunteers who will be stepping up to take on these roles.
