That may seem like a bizarre and ridiculous question. We’re human. Of course we know what a human being is. Or do we?
Recently, a friend who’s an expert on the Cayce material shared a reading excerpt with me, about the Atlanteans. (But remember—the Atlantean civilization lasted for thousands of years. Most of us on this planet probably had a lifetime, or lifetimes, in Atlantis. For the most part, we were the Atlanteans.)
“(Q) Describe some of the mental abilities that were developed by the Atlanteans at the time of their greatest spiritual development.
“(A) The use of MATERIAL conditions and spiritual attributes in a material world would, and do, become that as are the miracles of the Son in the material world; for….there WERE those periods when the activities of the physical were as was what would be termed the everyday life of the SONS of God in the Atlantean or Eden experience; for as those brought the various changes from the highest of the SPIRITUAL development to the highest of the mental, then of the MATERIAL or physical developments, then the fall—see?”
The reading is saying that, on an everyday basis, the Atlanteans could do the kinds of things that were regarded as miracles when Jesus did them….multiplying loaves and fishes, walking on water, calming the storm, healing.
My friend who shared this reading, also described a dream he’d had—where he was standing on a high place during a thunderstorm—and he was directing the storm. There are many ways such a dream could be interpreted, but he believed the dream represented a memory from a past Atlantean life.
As the reading says, the Atlanteans fell from their high spiritual/mental state—and their ability to do “miracles” casually, as part of daily life, was lost.
But the Cayce readings tell us that, just as we gradually “devolved,” became denser and more entrenched in the Earth, and lost our abilities—we have the capacity to gradually evolve, become more spiritualized, lighter, and regain the abilities that were once ours.
After all—consider our destiny:
“For a man is a little lower than the angels, yet was made that he might become the companion of the Creative Forces; and thus was given—in the breath of life—the individual soul, the stamp of approval as it were of the Creator; with the ability to know itself to be itself, and to make itself, as one with the Creative Forces….”
We were created to be companions and co-creators with God.
Right now, most of us are comparable to the caterpillar—that doesn’t much resemble a butterfly at all. Yet, a butterfly it will one day be!
So back to our question. What is a human being?
Much, much more than we appear to be now.
