Edgar Cayce’s readings told many individuals to read the 19th Chapter, 5th verse of Exodus (above). Essentially, “If you will be my people, I will be your God.”
The source of the readings made it clear that those advised to read this verse should take it to heart—not just as an exhortation given to the Jewish people thousands of years ago—but as a living promise still made to individuals who would adhere to the covenant. An example:
Reading 3432-1 was a physical reading given to help the seeker with a disease or physical health condition. However, the reading also addressed the psychological needs of the individual and said:
“Begin to analyze self and the relationship the entity bears with the universe and its Maker. Begin first by reading something from the Book itself. It would be well to read first the first five to six verses of the first chapter of Genesis, and in the third verse understand what it means that the knowledge is within thine own self, the light necessary for you—as [3432]—to be one of the best men God ever created. For He has promised to be with you, as an individual, if you will be with Him.
“Then turn to Exodus 19:5. This is not talking merely to Jews or Hebrews or Israelites – it is talking to [3432].” (The number 3432 is used in place of a name in the published reading to protect the confidentiality of the seeker.)
By the way, the third verse of Genesis is: “And God said, ‘Let there be light,’ and there was light.” Cayce implies that the light spoken of in that verse is not from a sun or star, but the Light within us all. We are capable of nurturing that light and living in covenant with God today, now!
