Maureen St. Germain has resigned as Treasurer due to family and business concerns. She was elected at the end of April and served admirably during a difficult time of transition, with a focus on improving our conformance to non-profit accounting standards.

Now, we are seeking a candidate for Board membership who can fill the office of Treasurer for the A.R.E. of New York. Our Treasurer has the primary responsibility of overseeing the management and reporting of our organization’s finances. Duties include:

  • Attend all board meetings
  • Maintain knowledge of the organization and personal commitment to its goals and objectives
  • Understand financial accounting for nonprofit organizations
  • Manage the Board’s review of and action related to its financial responsibilities
  • Ensure that appropriate financial reports are made available to the Board on a timely basis
  • Present the annual budget to the Board for approval
  • Supervise Bookkeeping functions
  • Help prepare for and review the annual audit
  • Bank account maintenance and financial transaction oversight

The Treasurer is largely influential in proper financial management and thus, greatly affects the public’s perception and trust in the organization’s management. Therefore, desirable qualifications are financial literacy, attention to detail, timeliness in completing tasks, neat and accurate record keeping, and a willingness to ask questions.
