In our last e-newsletter, we shared Cayce’s definition of “Christ Consciousness,” (above) and our understanding that this Earth experience is essentially a school where we are meant to develop this consciousness through successive lifetimes—until we are suited to fulfill the purpose we were created for: to be companions and co-creators with God.

From the point of view of the readings, Jesus attained this consciousness and represents the pattern, becoming a model (the word Cayce uses is “ensample”) of the pattern we are meant to grow toward. As far as I can tell, you don’t have to be a Christian to grow into this Oneness-with-God Consciousness. You do need to learn to live out the pattern that Jesus demonstrated. And what is that pattern? The readings call it the Fruits of the Spirit.

“…There has been set a sure ensample in the experience of all, if the mental influences of the mental body are fed upon the fruits of the spirit that are designated in Him who is the way to understanding, comprehension and application in the experience of any.”

What are the “fruits of the spirit”?

They are mentioned 175 times in the Cayce readings. Here are some of them. (We have bolded the list of the fruits of the spirit.):

“Feed, then, upon the fruits of the spirit. Love, hope, joy, mercy, long-suffering, brotherly love, and the contact, the growth, will be seen; and within the consciousness of the soul will the awareness come of the personality of the God in thee!” — Reading 254-68

“Be true to self, making for those activities that bear the fruits of the spirit; just being kind, just being gentle, just being patient, just showing fellowship, just showing brotherly love; just bearing witness in thy walks, thy acts, thy understandings unto thy fellow man.” — Reading 261-15

“The fruits of the Spirit are rather as we have shown: Brotherly love, kindness, mercy, patience, love, long-suffering. Against such there is no law, for they ARE the law of love.” — Reading 262-50
