This Labor Day, I got to thinking about how the Cayce Readings treat the subject of the issues between labor and management. There are a number of readings on this subject. Some of them were requested in response to particular situations affecting the nation at that time, but often they include concepts that would be helpful at any time. The reading excerpt above is an example of that, but this quote is particularly striking to me. It’s from a reading for a Labor-Management Mediator:
“…Ye may show forth in the activities of those in authority, that will consider each phase of the experience, the knowledge that while… Capital is necessary to Labor, Labor is JUST as necessary to Capital! As might be said of the tenon and the key….and that only when Capital considers Labor’s position, and Labor considers Capital’s position—and that they coordinate—may there be the good for all…
“These then…are again being enacted as it were before and through the entity of that as He gave, ‘THIS is the whole law—Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, thy body, thy soul; thy NEIGHBOR as thyself.’ This may be exemplified then, when Capital and when Labor love one another as brethren. For indeed it is the same cry, “Thou ART thy brother’s keeper!’”
— Reading 1151-12
Who would ever expect to see the word Love in a discussion of issues between Capital and Labor? But that is what Cayce’s Reading prescribes. Capital and Labor need to love one another “as brethren.”
