One of the most sought-after remedies is oil of oregano. It is sold in health food stores as a remedy for parasites and viruses, as well as to decrease inflammation. Many vouch for its efficacy. It is naturally very warming and causes many users to perspire freely, if momentarily.
The concentrated extract is potent and can irritate the skin and the lining of the digestive tract. Is there a kinder, gentler version? One that will not irritate or burn? Is it possible for us to make our own, easily and inexpensively?
Oregano is known for its robust and aromatic contribution to Mediterranean cuisines as well as for its ability to kick diseases, viruses, and certain bacteria. Olive oil, another native of the Mediterranean, will be our infusing agent. Our bodies recognize both oregano and olive oil as food, so we metabolize them easily and therefore heal more deeply.
In this hands-on workshop Wise Woman herbalist Rossana Inés Rossi will guide you in making your very own oregano oil. It can be used as often as desired and will not irritate or burn.
What you will need:
Glass jar, preferably with metal lid, 3 to 8 oz. capacity. Baby food or jelly jars that are clean and dry work well. Ensure that the jar is fully air-dried. Moisture trapped in oil breeds mold. We don’t want that in our medicine – this time!
-Oregano, fresh (one bunch) or dried (one container). (We may not use all the oregano, but we want more than enough.)
Enough olive oil to fill the jar. (You can use extra virgin or whatever you may have on hand.) You may substitute peanut, sesame or coconut oil; ghee, butter, or other animal fats for the olive oil if preferred. Instructions for use of saturated fats will be provided.
If using fresh oregano, you’ll need a sharp knife and cutting board, or use your fingers to shred the leaves.
You’ll gain practical knowledge to use with other herbs and infusing agents and confidence in your ability to create your own remedies, suited to your personal needs.
After the class participants will receive a PDF by email listing the ingredients, the process, and the healing benefits.
Please note: You are welcome to join us as an observer and receive the recipe to prepare at your own convenience. There will be a Q&A if time allows.
The event will be recorded and shared. You have the option to turn off your participant video, not use a profile photo or full name, and even mute yourself and just watch and listen if you do not want your personal info or video/audio feed recorded. For more info on Zoom meetings please see the Zoom website.

Rossana’s herbal lineage is rooted in the Wise Woman Tradition, believing that the healing path is paved with our innate wisdom; the herbalist is a tour guide on that path, but the patient calls the shots. We can facilitate healing and resiliency by shifting our focus from “detoxing” to “nourishment.”
In additional to plant medicine, Rossana has studied nutrition, bodywork, gem and crystal medicine, and various forms of energy medicine.
