Edgar Cayce Accessed the Book of Life for his Readings

Last week, we shared a bit of the July lesson in the national A.R.E.’s Enlightenment Series, written by John Van Auken. It’s about unusual experiences Edgar Cayce had during his readings—that shed light on what was going on “behind the scenes” when Cayce gave a reading—and about the capacities we all have.

Here’s another example:

Cayce did not remember what he said in the trance state while giving readings. What he would remember was a dream, in which he visited the Great Hall of Records of ALL souls, and the Keeper showed him a book—the Book of Life for the inquirer.

But during one reading, a new element was added to this experience. A later reading, 254-68, was taken about this experience:

“(Q) What is the significance of the experience…during reading {373-2} … in which Edgar Cayce saw himself travelling through water in a bubble and arriving at the place where he always gets the information—the old man with the books?”

Essentially, the answer was that Cayce was traveling between dimensions (symbolized by the water) and a translation was required to bring the information back to those waiting on the material plane.

As John Van Auken writes: “The language of the subconscious and higher levels is most often imagery, symbolic imagery and ‘knowings,’ which are impressions that come to us in the form of understandings without words.”

For the information to be put into words and be useful to others, a translation was required. Traveling through water in a bubble was Cayce’s own symbolic imagery for this process—the process of moving though dimensions and both transporting and transforming the information into a form that could be shared—the spoken word.

While Cayce was a more finely-tuned instrument than most, we all experience something like this in our dream life. We visit other dimensions where we have experiences and receive information in the form of “knowings.” On our way back to this earthly dimension, we have a “dream” which clothes those experiences and knowings in symbols that are meaningful for us. While the symbols may seem puzzling to us on first awakening, it is possible, with some effort, for us to interpret them –because it was our own subconscious mind that chose the symbols and created the dream.

Edgar Cayce said we could all do what he does.

Want to know more about how Cayce gave his readings?—And how you might also seek wisdom/information from higher dimensions?

John Van Auken studied the readings Cayce gave for himself on his psychic work—and wrote a book on Cayce’s teachings about making passages through levels of consciousness called Passage in Consciousness.
