The Cayce readings stated repeatedly that healing—all healing—was the attuning of the divine within the body to its Divine Source. This was true, the readings said, no matter what tools were used in the process:

“But KNOW, as has been given, ALL HEALING must be and IS of a deeper source than just the administration of a drug, of the knife, manipulative forces or vibrations that may be created! For all such measures merely create that environment through which the active forces and principles of an active body may gather their forces and influences for the destruction of that which should be eliminated…”

— Cayce Reading 1158-3

Here the readings are saying that the use of a drug, manipulation such as osteopathy or chiropractic or vibrational therapy may be part of the process, but they only create the environment for the divine consciousness within the body itself to eliminate destructive elements and rebuild. And for some people in some situations, these material efforts are unnecessary:

“It is true then that the mind may heal entirely by the spoken word, by the laying on of hands, dependent upon the CONSCIOUSNESS of the motivative forces in the individual body.”

Other readings gave instructions for the work of a healing prayer group. The Glad Helpers healing prayer group was started by Edgar Cayce and other members of his A Search for God group—and still exists today, with new members, meeting regularly at A.R.E. HQ in Virginia Beach.

In NYC our Prayers for Healing Group draws on the same instructions the readings gave for the Glad Helpers. Our Prayers for Healing Group was in existence long before we opened our physical Center in 1998—initially meeting in members’ homes. When our physical Center closed in 2018, the Prayers for Healing Group moved to the home of Paul Dorogoff. Since the pandemic, they have continued their sacred work via phone conference. Some people, like British Spiritual Healer Malcolm Smith, are given the innate gift of healing. Why certain individuals are chosen for this gift, we don’t know. We can only be grateful that they are.
