It’s not easy to change—particularly when habits are long-ingrained, as anyone knows who has ever tried to stop smoking, nail-biting or other behavioral patterns, such as procrastination. Here’s a Cayce Reading on the topic:
“(Q): My desire is to stop smoking cigarettes, yet I do not seem to have the will power to do so. How can I overcome this habit?
“(A) …Have the suggestions made to the body, as it is going to sleep— by one who is in sympathy with the body’s desire to change—that it will produce nausea, or that there will be the lack of desire for it.”
— Reading 263-11
Cayce was recommending a form of hypnosis, using the state between waking and falling asleep as a hypnotic trance. Another well-known reading recommended similar pre-sleep suggestions to overcome bed-wetting in a youngster.
Have you struggled to change an unhelpful habit or behavior—or a repeating pattern—such as relationships that tend to unravel in a certain way?
In May/June, Nanci Deutsch, LCSW, CHt, will facilitate a series of four Hypnosis Journeys focused on transforming behaviors, relationships and feelings that hold you back from the life you want to live. Details below.
